Steam hauled F-Zug on the DB had started to become rare by the 1960’s.
The summer of 1960 saw F9/F10 “Rheingold” with DB BR 23 haulage north of Cologne to Venlo, F3/F4 “Merkur" with a DB BR 01 as train loco between Frankfurt M and Wiesbaden.
1961/62, saw the continued use of the DB BR 23 on the Rheingold, north of Cologne.
1963, F 38 "Hans Sachs” Between Hagen - Cologne (BR03.10) and F 47/48 "Konsul" between Mannheim and Frankfurt M (BR 01) were Steam hauled.
1964/65, only the F 43/44 "Roland" between Frankfurt M) and Kassel with an Oil fired BR 01.10.
The last F-Zug with steam traction was in the winter of 1966 , F 3/4 " Merkur" at weekends with an oil fired BR 01.10 between Osnabrück and Hamburg Altona.
